Should I Ping or Use Emergency Tracking?

Emergency Tracking

If you suspect a load is under duress, enable Emergency Tracking to receive frequent status reports for the duration you specify. You can closely monitor the trailer's position and the cargo and door status if you use these sensors, and track the trailer and cargo until help arrives. If the trailer is not connected to external power, it may take up to a specific number of hours (configurable) before the trailer responds to emergency tracking activation or changes.

Note:
  • Increased messaging costs are incurred with Emergency Tracking
  • Increased messaging may also drain the terminal's battery
  • You need special permission to use this feature

Ping trailer

Click Ping Trailer to request an immediate status report. Pinging the trailer also sends new trailer configuration parameters immediately if you have made changes.

Note: Additional messaging costs may be incurred with pinging. Costs vary depending on the number of pings.

Activate Emergency Tracking or ping the trailer?

Consider the following when deciding whether or not to use Emergency Tracking:

  • Emergency Tracking increases messaging costs
  • Emergency Tracking can possibly drain the terminal's battery
  • What is the company's policy on Emergency Tracking?
  • What constitutes an emergency?
  • What interval should I use?
  • How do we ensure Emergency Tracking gets disabled after the emergency is over?
