Trailer Tracks Application Overview
Trailer Tracks includes support for TT100 (tethered) trailer tracking terminals, and for the TT2NN untethered trailer tracking terminals. Untethered trailer tracking does not require that vehicles be equipped with Omnitracs mobile devices, such as MCPs.
In the Trailer Tracks application, you can create a geofence around a trailer's location to ensure that it remains where you put it (trailer yard or customer location) and that it doesn't go where it shouldn't (into a restricted area).
Exchanging information
Trailer Tracks provides your company's dispatch office with the trailer's locations and alerts. Trailer location can be determined to within one-quarter (¼) mile. You can monitor the following:
- Trailer inventory at specific locations (landmarks) by reporting connects and disconnects between trailers and tractors
- Trailer position
- When and where a trailer is connected to or dropped from a tractor
- When the trailer door is open or closed
- Whether the trailer is carrying cargo
- Whether a trailer remains within or goes outside of defined geographic boundaries or geofences
- When a trailer is on a trip or the trip has ended, based on its movement over time (untethered terminal release 3 firmware required)
- When a trailer is connected to external power (untethered terminal release 3 firmware required)
Trailer Tracks terminals exchange information over a terrestrial wireless network with the Network Operations Center (NOC). The terminal periodically sends information to provide status updates and location. Certain conditions and activities (events) cause information about the trailer's location or status to be sent at times other than a regularly scheduled status report. Events can indicate when a trailer is empty or carrying cargo and when a trailer door is open or closed, and these events can be reported to you as alerts.
What are geofences?
Geofences are rectangular "invisible fences" that you can put around a location, like a customer location or trailer yard. You set the location of the geofence, its dimensions, and how long the geofence should remain active. Alerts generated by trailers entering or exiting a geofence provide rapid notification about the movement of your trailers. When you receive an alert, you can determine if there are any actions you need to take.
Getting Started
Trailer Tracks software retrieves data from the untethered terminal either on demand or automatically at preset intervals. You can view, print, save, and export (.csv) the information. You can also change your preferences for how you want to display information.
Before you begin
Before you can use the Trailer Tracks application, you must have:
- Terminals installed and configured on your trailers
- Users, user groups, trailer parameters, and trailer monitoring plans properly set up
- The Notifier window enabled to receive near real-time alert information (optional)
If you need assistance installing and configuring hardware, account information, Return Material Authorization (RMAs), order status, or need to enable Trailer Tracks equipment, call Customer Support at 800-541-7490.
Trailer Tracks software setup
After the hardware has been installed and configured on your trailers, you can set up the Trailer Tracks software. Complete the following:
- Set your company preferences
- Create roles
- Create users
- Create user groups and add users to those groups
- Create trailer parameters and trailer monitoring plans
- Modify the auto-created trailers as needed to reassign trailer types and monitoring plans
- Apply geofences to trailers (optional)
